As some of you may know my GrandMum is in a home now with
Alzheimer's. It's a horrible disease, robbing families and friends of valuable time together, and robbing the health of the afflicted. We are both sad that she is not well. In the short time I knew her she was fun to be with and loved me lots. She didn't get to see any of my success in agility, or watch me grow.
This holiday season is a great time to give back to those charities near and dear to your heart. We hope you will provide what you can to help those who are less fortunate, provide them with a
holiday gift, or volunteer of your time and help however you can.
This year we're going to focus on a variety of charities close to our hearts, highlighting their missions and sharing their needs.
Our first charity is the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, in honor of my GrandMum. Their mission is to provide optimal care and services to individuals confronting dementia, and to their caregivers and families—through member organizations dedicated to improving quality of life.
Tomorrow is their National Commemorative Candle Lighting, a nationwide event sponsored by the Foundation to remember and honor Americans who have been or will be affected by Alzheimer's disease or related illnesses. Local organizations will be holding inspirational ceremonies in their communities on the same day, uniting individuals from coast to coast as they light "candles of care." When you get a chance be sure and stop by their store for some great gifts for the holidays with proceeds going to the Foundation.
For charities like these - everyone has something important to offer, and all offerings are important. Think of your favorite charity this holiday season.
