Not too long ago, my Mum's Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. We don't get to see her much because she is in a home now in another city. But we think about her often.
Coming up in cities across the country is the Alzheimer's Memory Walk. The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer's. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall.
By teaming up with the Alzheimer's Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move them closer to a world without Alzheimer's.
Since two-leggers are the ones that walk, I've decided to sponsor a Memory Walker this year, and help with the cause. If you are interested in helping they are looking for Team Captains throughout the country to coordinate teams of walkers. Team Captains need to sign up early so they can organize, recruit and motivate other walkers.
And, if you are interested in participating be sure and visit their site. They can tell you all about how to become involved. On their site, you can search for a walk near you, search for an individual or team to sponsor, sign up to be a team captain and sign up to walk.
My name is Kathy, and I am the primary caregiver for my 79 year old Dad who has Alzheimer's disease and lives with me in North Carolina.
ReplyDeleteI am writing a daily blog that shows the lighter side of caring for someone with dementia.
Please pass this link along to anyone you feel would enjoy it.

It's really cool that you are helping peeps with Alzheimers. Mistress has met a couple of people who were caring for them, and they had a very difficult time. It is very draining.
ReplyDeleteGood one Johann.
