Thinking of our fellow four leggers!

We've been Twittering and blogging over at Rescue Me about animal rescue and shelter news and information during the recent hurricanes.

I just can't imagine what all the people, animals and pets have gone through this season. We've shed a few tears for our fellow pups, as we've written about them.

We had to share one of the most touching photos we saw while searching for news and updates. This one.

Frederika Kotin kisses her dog Belle as her home burns behind her after Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, Texas September 13, 2008.

  5. Hi Gracie and Johann,
I came overe to your blog from Lacy Lulu's blog.. that is one touching picture. It reminds me of the cover of a book (can't remember the name now) that's dedicated to the animals who were rescued during Katrina.

  7. Wow! That picture broke my heart into a million pieces but yet, it's so touching. LIFE is always more important than anything else! Last time, an earthquake hit Indonesia & Malaysia felt the mild tremors. The apartment my hoomans & my kitty sista, Tinkerbell were living in swayed around just after midnight. The 1st thing they grabbed was Tinkerbell & ran downstairs immediately! Mommy didn't have time to wait so she grabbed Tinkerbell pretty rough & shoved her in the kitty bag. When everybody was downstairs all scared & terrified, one neighbor commented & said, "Why these guys brought their cat along? Documents are more important." That made my Mommy pretty sad & she sooo disagreed with that! LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DOCUMENTS! And WE are their No.1 priority. They'll never leave us behind if anything should happen like Hurricane Katrina & so on. If the rescuers refuse to take us (their pets) along, they said they will not leave their home. We all will stick together whether as a family...

  8. We saw that elsewhere but didn't know the information you have with it. Knowing why she is kissing the dog makes it even more precious.

  9. That is so sad! That would be our mum if something awful like that happened here.

Johann, we are in Australia, but it sounds like there are so many problems in the US at the moment and our mum would like to help these poor puppers with donations from her rescue project(www.dogpaintings.com.au).

Can you suggest the best rescue to donate to, (preferably that accept paypal donations?)

  10. Thanks for posting that pic-- it does a body good to see something beautiful out of all that destruction. I've finally heard from all my furry friends who were any where near Ike and they are all safe and sound. Some are minus their homes, like Frederika and Belle, but they are safe with friends and getting on with their lives. :)
